El batería de los canadienses Striker, Adan Brown, nos concede una entrevista. Hola Adam, primero gracias por la entrevista. Tengo entendido que vais a sacar un nuevo disco, Stand in the Fire. ¿Cómo va sonar este nuevo álbum?.

Hi Adam, first thank you for the interview.I have understood that Striker will release a new album «Stand in the Fire,» How will this new album sound?.

¡Impresionante! Abarca una gran cantidad de diferentes estilos. Mi canción favorita «Out for Blood» cuenta con un saxofón, pero una vez que lo oye, tiene mucho más sentido jaja. Aún así conseguir ese sonido clásico El delantero, sin embargo, grandes voces, los solos de guitarra impresionante, riffs pegadizos.

Awesome! It covers a lot of different styles. My favourite song “Out for Blood” features a saxophone, but once you hear it, it makes way more sense haha. Still getting that classic Striker sound though, big vocals, awesome guitar solos, catchy riffs.

Vuestro primer disco “Eyes in the Night” era un álbum muy Speed , el segundo “Armed To The Teeh” más melódico, el tercero “City of Gold” un conjunto de los dos anteriores , ¿Cómo va a ser este nuevo disco, será parecido a los anteriores o va a ser muy diferente?.

Your first album «Eyes in the Night» was an album very Speed, the second «Armed To The teeh» more melodic, the third «City of Gold» a set of the previous two, how will this new album, will be like before or it will be very different?

Es difícil de decir. Es muy Heavy, con gran producción, pero las canciones son muy melódicas como siempre. Yo tendría que decir que es más cercano a “City of Gold”. No es tan speed como “Eyes In The Night”. Esperemos que vale por sí mismo, aunque…!.

Tough to say- It’s really heavy, with big production, yet the songs as melodic as ever. I’d have to say it’s closest to City of Gold. Not quite as fast as Eyes in the Night. Hopefully it stands on its own though!

¿Qué evolución crees que hay entre este nuevo álbum y los anteriores?

What do you think evolution between this new album and the previous ones?

Creo que es una progresión muy natural. Hemos aprendido mucho a lo largo de los años, pero aún así sabemos lo que nos gusta escuchar y lo que nos gusta tocar. Creo que los fans de Striker estarán bastante contentos con el resultado. El sonido ha ido sin duda evolucionando a lo largo de los años, pero el espíritu sigue siendo el mismo!.

I think it’s a pretty natural progression. We’ve learnt a lot over the years, but still know what we like to hear and what we like to play. I think Striker fans will be pretty happy with the outcome. The sound has definitely been evolving over the years, but the spirit remains the same!.

Vuestro nuevo video-clip “Too Late” es un tema muy melódico a la vez que muy heavy, ¿ es esta la línea principal del disco?.

Your new video and single «Too Late» is a very melodic song while very heavy, is this the main line of the album?.

Sí, se podría decir que Too Late es probablemente la canción más lenta en el álbum, la mayor parte es bastante Heavy. Es una melodía muy buena y pensamos que sería un buen video, por lo que se hizo. Pero sí, melódica y Heavy a la vez, eso es sin duda la idea correcta, jaja.

Yeah, you could say that. Too Late is probably the slowest song on the album, most of it is quite heavy. It’s a rad tune though and we thought it would make a good video, so we did it. But yes, melodic and heavy, that’s definitely the right idea, haha.

¿Qué tal fue la gira con Kobra and The Lotus?, ¿cómo te sentiste al tocar con otra banda que no era la tuya?.

How was the tour with Kobra and the Lotus ?, how did it feel to play with another band that was not yours?.

¡Bien! Fue una bonita experiencia, fue fantástico!. Crecí con su guitarra desde que tenía 8 años de edad, y empezamos a entrar en Metal y en la música al mismo tiempo. Nunca realmente tuve la oportunidad de tocar con él, sin embargo, fue increíble en ese sentido. La música era un poco más técnica, definitivamente aprendí mucho como baterista y conocí a gente estupenda en el camino!.

Well! It was a pretty great experience. I grew up with their guitar player since I was 8 years old, and we started getting into metal and music at the same time. Never really has the chance to play with him though, so it was awesome in that way. The music was a little more technical, I definitely learnt a lot as a drummer and met some great people along the way!.

¿Cuál fue el mejor concierto de la gira?.

What was the best concert remember this tour?.

El mejor concierto con Kobra and the Lotus, probablemente tendría que decir Festival Graspop en Bélgica. El gran Lemmy entre bastidores, sin darse cuenta de que sería la última vez! Todo ese festival es increíble, grandes bandas y grandes personas.

Best concert with Kobra and the Lotus, I would probably have to say Graspop Festival in Belgium. Saw Lemmy backstage, never realizing that would be the last time! All in all that festival is amazing, great bands and great people.

Ahora (Striker) empezáis una gira junto a Primal Fear y Brainstorm ¿Cómo se presenta esta gira?.

Now (Striker) you begin a tour with Primal Fear and Brainstorm How this tour presents?.

Estamos muyyyyyyyy emocionados con esta gira! Todos crecimos escuchando Primal Fear y es realmente un honor tocar en una gira con ellos. Recientemente han firmado un acuerdo con Rock the Nation, una agencia de reservas, que también estamos trabajando con ellos. Después de años de gira y haciendo álbumes finalmente poder hacernos un nombre por sí mismo, y conocer a la gente que te da oportunidades como éstas.

Sooooooo excited for this tour! We all grew up listening to Primal Fear, and it is really an honour to get to tour with them. They recently signed a deal with Rock the Nation, a booking agency, who we are also working with. After years of touring and making albums you eventually make a name for yourself, and meet the people that will give you opportunities like these.

Desde vuestro segundo disco “Armed To The Teeh”, ha habido varios cambios de formación ,realmente solo quedáis Dan y tú ¿Por qué tantos cambios?.

From your second album «Armed To The Teeth», there have been several changes of formation, really only ye remain Dan and you Why so many changes?.

No estoy seguro de si las personas se dan cuenta de que los miembros de la banda hacen muchos sacrificios intensos para hacer lo que aman. Los tours te llevan lejos de tener un trabajo de verdad, la familia, las relaciones. Es difícil para el cuerpo y la mente. Seguimos siendo amigos cercanos con todo el mundo que ha estado en la banda, y estamos contentos de haber tocado al lado de ellos. Si estuviéramos haciendo millones de dólares que estoy seguro de que no habría sido un problema jaja, pero no todo el mundo está listo para dormir en una furgoneta y conducir 12 horas cada día, aunque….!

I’m not sure if the average person realizes the intense sacrifices band members make to do what they love. Touring takes you away from having a real job, family, relationships. It’s hard on the body and the mind. We’re still close friends with everyone who’s been in the band, and are happy to have played beside them. If we were making millions of dollars I’m sure it wouldn’t have been an issue haha but not everyone is ready to sleep in a van and drive 12 hours a day though!.

He visto que habéis cambiado el logo de la banda ¿Por qué?.

I have seen that you have changed the logo of the band , Why?.

¡Bueno! El logotipo en realidad no ha cambiado….diferentes artistas han puesto su propia visión sobre el mismo durante los años. Si estás hablando de las espadas nuevas que hemos estado utilizando, es porque durante años hemos estado hablando sobre la creación de una especie de Striker «cresta», o algo que se imprime como en un grifo de cerveza. Esto es sólo el primer paso de verdad!.

Well! The logo hasn’t really changed…different artists have put their own vision on it over the years. If you’re talking about the cool swords we’ve been using, it’s because for years we’ve been talking about creating a kind of Striker “crest”, or something that would be printed on a beer tap handle. This is just the first step really!

Actualmente tanto en Europa como en Canadá se habla de una vertiente llamada , “Old School Heavy Metal” con bandas como Cauldron , Skull Fist , Axxion , Mortillery o Striker ( Canadá ) Enforcer , Ambush , Wolf , Ram ( Europa ) ¿Qué pensáis sobre esto?.

Currently both in Europe and in Canada speak of a spring called «Old School Heavy Metal» bands like Cauldron, Skull Fist, Axxion, Mortillery or Striker (Canada) Enforcer, Ambush, Wolf, Ram (Europe) What do you think about this?.

Creo que es impresionante. Espero que algún día hagamos una excursión masiva con todas las bandas y dominar el mundo!! jaja. Es realmente genial escuchar a la gente haciendo buena música, aunque todos traemos nuestro propio estilo de lo que realmente nos gusta, y es una comunidad pequeña, creo que conozco a alguien personalmente en cada una de esas bandas. Creo que cuando una banda de estas tiene éxito, todos lo logramos realmente. Así que lo mejor de la suerte a todos!.

I think it’s awesome. I hope one day we do one massive tour with all the bands and take over the world. It’s really great to hear people making good music though! We all bring our own style to it really, and it’s a small community, I think I know someone personally in each of those bands. I think the more one band succeeds, the more we all succeed really. So best of luck to them all!.

¿Por qué crees que no cuentan con estas bandas para los grandes festivales europeos (Hellfest, Wacken , Download ….) o aquí en España (Leyendas del Rock , Rock Fest ….)?.

Why do you think they do not have these bands for the major European festivals (Hellfest, Wacken,Graspop , Download ….) Or here in Spain (Leyendas del Rock, Rock Fest ….)?.

¡Bueno! A veces lo hacen … a veces no lo hacen. Eso es realmente una declaración acerca de la industria y «A quién conoces», a menudo es el agente del festival que le dará ese punto al fest y tiene muy poco que hacer la propia banda.

Well! Sometimes they do… sometimes they don’t. That’s really a statement about the industry and “Who you know”, often it’s the booking agent that will get you that festival spot and has very little to do about the band themselves.

¿Puede ser que las llamadas grandes bandas tengan miedo a que los borréis del mapa con vuestros increíbles directos?.

Can it be that so-called big bands have fear that you erase your map with incredible direct?.

Las grandes bandas no tienen miedo de nada, estoy bastante seguro de que no por quitarles la cabecera del festival jaja. Sí, somos más jóvenes y con mejor aspecto … pero creo que lo están haciendo muy bien.

If big bands are afraid of anything, I’m pretty sure it’s not Striker haha. Yeah, we’re younger and better looking… but I think they are doing just fine.
